MALAGA City is now officially a candidate to become the European Capital of Culture 2016, since the President of the Malaga Ciudad Cultural Foundation, Juan Lopez Cohard, handed in the required paperwork to the Government Office in Malaga.

Members of the foundation, the President of the Provincial Government, Salvador Pendon, the Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, and the Provincial Delegate for the Junta de Andalucia, Maria Gamez, presented the project which has the slogan ‘Infinite City’.

Pendon said that the aim is to promote the city’s cultural side and get Malaga residents to join forces for a common goal.

On September 28-30, a delegation from Malaga will have to defend the city’s candidacy before a jury of six Spaniards and seven members of the European Union. The winning Spanish city will be announced in July 2011. One of the aims is to bring the different languages, nationalities and culture which live in Malaga together.

The activities planned for Malaga if it becomes European Capital of Culture 2016 will be based on seven lines, where each philosophy coincides with a mythological God, a day of the week and a colour of the rainbow.
