ON behalf of all the EWN staff, clients and readers, Steven and I would like to say a great big thank you to the Royal British Legion – a small group of fantastic people who are doing such a phenomenal amount on behalf of the rest of us who are doing so very little – we applaud you all. This week we beg each and every one of you to please buy a poppy, which will be such a small token of your appreciation of the fine young men and women out there fighting for our freedom. Individuals who have left behind their security, the comfort of their homes, their families, their children, risking life and limb for us – people they do not know – will never meet. In return for this we only have to buy a poppy – it’s nothing to each of us individually – it is less than the price of a small beer – a cigarette – a packet of crisps, yet collectively, it will make such a huge difference to their lives when they are able to return. This is our voice – let us scream THANK YOU lads and lasses for everything you are giving up for us, asking nothing in return – just a small simple poppy – how can we refuse?
We cannot – we should not – we will not.
