AN 18-YEAR-OLD man accused of tying up an 84-year-old pensioner while robbing a Benalmadena home for the elderly was arrested.

He is accused of stealing €590 in cash, mobile phones, watches, pliers, scissors, medicines and even a hearing aid from the Marymar Residential Home.

The youth, wearing only swimming trunks, allegedly climbed from one balcony to another at the home overlooking the beach on Avenida Antonio Machado, entering rooms where the metal doors were open and stealing items from five of them in the early hours of the morning.

An elderly pensioner who awoke as the teen entered his room via the window confronted him, was tied up and left two hours before being discovered.

When he got to the last room, the occupant also awoke and grappled with him, shouting for help after which the alleged thief fled through a window.

Myramar Director, Fernando Muñagorri Triana, told EWN “it was a great shock for an old man of 84 to go through. The police treated it with gravity because the anxiety could have caused a heart attack.”
