The Fuengirola Cudeca Charity Shop was the first of its kind when it originally opened

ON Friday September 25 Cudeca reopened their Avenida Jesus Santos Rein, Fuengirola Charity Shop after a brief period of closure for a refurbishment.

Mayor of Fuengirola, Esperanza Oña; Social Welfare Councillor Ana Mata; and of course Cudeca Founder Joan Hunt attended the inauguration.

The Fuengirola charity shop was the first of its type on the Costa del Sol when it opened over a decade ago and was the first of Cudeca’s 14 charity shops. For Cudeca these shops are one of the principal sources of funding, and they are run entirely by volunteers who give up their time to help this worthy cause.

Thanks to the campaign ‘Save the In-Patient Unit’ 2.4 million euros was raised in 2008, which allowed Cudeca to continue with their care service throughout 2009.

At the re-launch of the Fuengirola shop Joan Hunt thanked the extraordinary efforts by the volunteers and the public for supporting the charity, but warned that donations to Cudeca are declining and although this year’s financial survival is practically guaranteed, next year’s prospects seem bleak.

During the Mayor’s speech, Esperanza Oña thanked Cudeca for the valuable contribution Cudeca makes to her constituents, and described Joan Hunt as a woman whose vision and determination is one which is often referred to in the Town Hall, commending her for the success of her enterprise.

The Fuengirola Charity Shop is open to the public from Monday to Saturday from 10am until 1pm.
